The television show follows the exhibition floor

Geoff Keighley says ONL participants are Gamescom partners and describes the broadcast as a digital extension of what those companies are doing in Cologne.

That relationship is visible in the confirmed lineup. CD Projekt RED introduces more of The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past on August 25, then starts guided presentations of the expansion at its Gamescom booth on August 26.

Gears of War: E-Day follows a similar pattern: a campaign story trailer during ONL, followed by the first public campaign hands-on sessions at the show.

Not every slot is purchased

Keighley says the program combines paid placements with games selected for editorial consideration. Independent titles are among those that can be chosen because the organizers want them represented rather than because a publisher bought the segment.

Gamescom co-organizer Felix Falk says the vast majority of its digital activity is provided to partners without paid advertising fees.

Keighley is equally clear about the broader category: these showcases are marketing events.

The physical event has reached a new capacity milestone

For the first time, Gamescom says every available exhibition area for 2026 has been booked.

Organizers present that demand as a positive signal from an industry that has spent recent years dealing with layoffs, closures and cautious investment. Full halls show appetite for visibility and business meetings; they are not evidence that the industry's financial problems have disappeared.

Two hours begin on August 25

The pre-show starts at 7:30 PM CEST, followed by the main Opening Night Live broadcast at 8 PM. The scheduled finish is approximately 10 PM.

Confirmed appearances already include Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day, METRO 2039, Ananta, The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past and a live Mewgenics music performance.
